Here is a video by Chef Jamie Oliver. In it, he makes mechanically separated chicken—on a small scale, of course—in his kitchen.
I’m sorry about this post, really I am. I’m sorry to keep talking about it. The Communications Director of the National Chicken Council contacted me regarding my earlier post and they aren’t exactly happy with me.
For the last time:
Source of my picture: Fooducate
Source of the information in my post: Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma
For good measure: an article from the NY Times about beef producers injecting yummy, yummy ammonia in your hamburgers so they’re “safe”.
I will be turning off the anonymous feature in my ask box till this whole thing blows over.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS.
WE NEED A MODREN VERSION OF UPTON SINCLAIR’S THE JUNGLE.
^ THIS EXACTLY. I was thinking just how much it’s getting like it was when The Jungle was written, it’s just so hidden. They don’t tell us anything about what’s happening to the food and because there’s an FDA we just assume everything is perfectly fine.
In reality we’re so pumped full of propaganda from these companies (like Got Milk? making us think milk is a great source of Calcium when in reality leafy greens are much better for it, because the large amount of Protein in milk makes it harder for our body to absorb the Calcium. Just because there’s a lot of Calcium in the milk doesn’t mean our bodies will be able to get the benefits of it.)
Oh and how about the current head of the FDA was the lawyer for the same company that came up with the Bovine Growth Hormones?
And this method of “mechanically seperating chicken” was used for beef until an outbreak of Mad Cow Disease (because parts of the cow, nervous system for example, that are not supposed to be eaten are being ground up in there) forced them to ban this method. But only for beef.
IT TAKES AN OUTBREAK OF A DEADLY DISEASE TO MAKE THEM CHANGE SOMETHING.
THERE’S A THING CALLED BEING ‘PROACTIVE’ WHY DON’T WE GIVE THAT A TRY?
We know this isn’t good. Why are we doing it?
Because it’s cheaper. We use ALL of the animal.
But what long-term effects will this have on us?
Will we start getting diseases exclusive to fowl now? Or pork?
And all of these growth hormones being pumped into the meat and vegetables we eat, the things that MAKE CELLS GROW FASTER, LARGER, AT CRAZY RATES. Sound familiar? Sound like CANCER? The chemicals are in the food, we EAT THE FOOD, and we wonder why Cancer is such a big thing now. It wasn’t this big of a problem, not this wide spread before these changes to foods were made.
And like my brother was saying earlier today when we were perusing the internet, soaking up as much of this as we could, he commented on them sterilizing foods, like soaking the meat in ammonia. People used to be able to eat those meats and drink milk without getting sick because their bodies were given a chance to encounter the bacteria, and the immune system would develop a way to combat it. Now people get so sick over eating improperly treated meat/milk because they’ve never been exposed to these bacteria before because their bodies are used to the meat companies doing their job. Well, the job doesn’t always get done right.
I don’t know, just the whole ordeal sickens me.
I feel I’ve been manipulated and lied to for my whole life. All of those commercials telling me to drink milk for strong bones, when really milk is just liquid meat, full of unnatural hormones, Calcium blocking protein and adhesive that’s used to glue furniture together.
I’m off to do more research.
And I may check out The Jungle. I haven’t read the whole thing yet and it seems pretty relevant right now.
